First, you’ll need OEM Mitsubishi Part Number MR432364. Do do this job. Be sure to use only Factory Mitsubishi Parts! Don’t settle for lower-quality generic parts!
- If the fuel tank is over 1/2 full, drain the tank until the fuel level is about 1/2 full.
- Make note of your radio station settings, because the radio will be reset after this.
- Then disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Remove the rear seat cushion by pulling the rear seat stoppers, then lifting up the rear seat cushion.
- Remove the protector (fuel pump module access cover).
- Disconnect the two fuel pump module electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the fuel return hose from the fuel pump module.
- Raise the vehicle. Use a transmission jack to support the fuel tank.
- Remove two exhaust pipe brackets from the rear exhaust pipe.
- Unclip the two black fuel tank strap hold–down clips (if so equipped). Remove the two front fuel tank strap nuts and pull down the front of the tank straps.
- Lower the front of the fuel tank about 3 inches to access the fuel return hose.
- Remove the return hose from the three clips on top of the tank.
- Remove the two tie wraps securing the fuel return hose to the fuel supply hose. Keep the tie wraps for re–use.
- Disconnect the fuel return hose from the return tube. Save the small hose clamps for use with the new hose.
- Connect the new fuel return hose to the return tube. Be sure the hose clamp is securely installed.
- Install the new fuel return hose to the three clips on top of the tank.
- Reinstall the two tie wraps around the fuel return hose and fuel supply hose.
- Raise the fuel tank back into position and reinstall the front fuel tank straps. Tighten the strap nuts to 26 Nm (19 ft/lbs). Reconnect the black fuel tank strap hold–down clips (if so equipped).
- Reinstall the exhaust pipe brackets.
- Remove the transmission jack. Lower the vehicle.
- Reconnect the new fuel return hose to the fuel pump module. Be sure the hose clamp is securely installed.
- Reconnect the two fuel pump module electrical connectors.
- Reinstall the protector (fuel pump module access cover). Tighten the screws securely.
- Route the seat belt buckles through the rear seat cushion openings. Reinstall the rear seat cushion.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Reset the radio code and the vehicle’s radio station settings. Reset the clock to the correct time.
